Lewandowski’s 12th goal of the season helped Barcelona secure its sixth wins in LaLiga in a row as it beat Mallorca 1-0 on Saturday.
Lewandowski’s ninth league goal was enough for Barça to win, but Marc-Andre Ter Stegen also had to be at his best.
With the victory, Barça momentarily overtakes Real Madrid at the top of the standings.
On Sunday, when they visit Osasuna, Madrid will try to keep up their perfect record in La Liga.
Alejandro Balde was chosen by Xavi Hernandez to play right back at Mallorca in place of the injured Ronald Araujo, Jules Kounde, and Hector Bellerin. Gerard Pique and Jordi Alba also entered the lineup.
It was the ever-present Lewandowski who opened the scoring in the 20th minute.
The Polish striker received a pass from Ansu Fati, turned inside of his defender, and fired a beautiful finish through a tangle of bodies into the bottom corner.
It was his 12th goal across all competitions this year and gave Barça the victory.
The win was tight for Xavi’s team at times, but Mallorca under Javier Aguirre impressed.
Jaume Costa and Antonio Sanchez both had shots stopped by Ter Stegen, while Lee Kang-In missed a late opportunity as Barça earned three crucial points.
