The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has released its decision on the Fuel Charges Adjustment (FCA) requested by KE for April 2024, which will result in a benefit of PKR 1.67 per kWh for customers in their July 2024 bills.
Previously, NEPRA had set the FCA rates at PKR 1.7111 per kWh for July 2023 and PKR 1.3946 per kWh for September 2023, both of which will also be reflected in the July 2024 bills.
Fuel Charge Adjustments arise due to global fluctuations in fuel prices used for electricity generation and changes in the energy generation mix. These adjustments are transferred to consumers after thorough review and approval by NEPRA.
In a separate development, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Anti-Corruption Circle Lahore has launched an inquiry against the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO).
According to an FIA spokesperson, LESCO is accused of overbilling millions of protected customers by charging them for more than 200 units of power. This alleged overbilling changed the category of these protected consumers, resulting in a significant additional financial burden.
