Police have converted the murder case registered against alleged drug dealer Anmol, alias Pinky, into a case of culpable homicide after submitting the final charge sheet before the City Court.
According to police, the investigating officer has filed the final challan, which was scrutinized by District Prosecutor Asadullah Maitlo and Deputy District Prosecutor Arif Sitai.
Police said the murder charge was removed in light of the chemical examination report issued by the University of Karachi. The report allegedly concluded that the deceased died as a result of drug intoxication rather than injuries amounting to murder.
Authorities further stated that the identity of the deceased could not be established and, consequently, DNA identification was also not possible.
Police explained that a murder conviction carries a maximum punishment of the death penalty and a minimum sentence of life imprisonment. However, under Section 322 of the Pakistan Penal Code, which deals with culpable homicide, the accused may be required to pay diyat (blood money), subject to the court’s determination.
The case was originally registered by the Baghdadi Police Station as a murder case. According to police, the FIR was lodged approximately one month after the body was discovered.
Police also confirmed that the complainant has already recorded a statement before the court under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
