ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has nominated Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid’s (PML-Q) leader Kamil Ali Agha as the government’s candidate for senator in the upcoming Senate elections.
A delegation of Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) led by Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi met with Prime Minister Imran Khan here in Islamabad The meeting was attended by Tariq Bashir Cheema, Moonis Elahi, federal ministers Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Pervez Khattak and Shafqat Mahmood.
The meeting discusses the overall political situation and matters pertaining to upcoming Senate elections. Sources said that PM Khan has approved awarding of the Senate ticket to senior party leader of PML-Q Kamil Ali Agha.
The premier has also constituted a committee, comprising Speaker Punjab Assembly Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, Chief Minister Usman Buzdar, and Governor Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar, to work out a strategy for the Senate elections in Punjab.
The prime minister has assured that the ruling PTI would proceed with its allies’ input regarding the Senate elections as he approved Agha’s name.
Besides, Punjab Assembly’s speaker invited PM Imran to inaugurate the new building of the Punjab Assembly, which the prime minister accepted.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Imran Khan has said in the Charter of Democracy (CoD), the leaders of opposition Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), had agreed upon holding Senate polls through the open ballot.
While addressing a meeting of the government spokesperson in Islamabad PM Imran said the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM “poses no threat to the ruling PTI government.
Prime Minister Imran Khan said that his government is asking the Senate to make amendments in a bid to make the elections more transparent. “By objecting to the idea of making the Senate elections more transparent, the Opposition is doing nothing but exposing itself,” he added.
PM Khan said that the opposition itself is a big hurdle in carrying out transparent polls and added that denial of Senate through open ballot shows that they want to steal Senate elections through horsetrading.
