Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned any criticism directed at national martyrs, calling it the “gravest crime”, and praised the Pakistan Army Chief as a “true patriot and an outstanding professional.”
His remarks came during his keynote address at the Overseas Pakistanis Convention held in Islamabad.
“Speaking against those who lay down their lives for the country is the worst form of crime,” the premier stated. “The Army Chief speaks from the heart and stands firm in his patriotism.”
The Prime Minister expressed deep admiration for overseas Pakistanis, describing them as “the crown jewels of the nation.” He noted that over ten million Pakistanis living abroad are contributing billions of dollars annually to the country’s economy, playing a vital role in projecting Pakistan’s image positively on the global stage.
He emphasized that no incentive or concession could fully repay the sacrifices and support of the overseas community, adding that “no one can cast an evil eye on Pakistan.”
Referring to the resurgence of terrorism, PM Shehbaz noted that while terrorism was eradicated by 2018, it is once again surfacing.
“More than 80,000 Pakistanis have embraced martyrdom in the fight for peace. And we all know where the roots and funding of terrorism lie,” he asserted.
In a pointed message, the premier condemned anti-Pakistan rhetoric emerging from the UK, especially targeting national martyrs. Citing the Quran, he reminded the audience:
“Do not call the martyrs dead. They are alive, but you perceive it not.”
He called on Pakistani expatriates to counter such narratives with dignity and resolve.
The event also focused on investment opportunities and strengthening Pakistan’s diplomatic and economic ties with its diaspora. PM Shehbaz reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering support for the people of Kashmir and Gaza, stating:
“Over 50,000 of our brothers and sisters have been martyred in Gaza, and ceasefire agreements are being shamelessly violated.”
He concluded by promising full political and diplomatic backing to oppressed communities across the globe.
