PM launches Ehsaas Ration Portal to support needy people

MM News Staff by MM News Staff
April 22, 2020
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has launched the Ehsaas Ration Portal to create a linking system between the donor and beneficiary in the distribution of rations and food supplies.
The prime minister said the portal has been set up to enable the private sector to reach the most vulnerable segment of the society. He said the government’s role would be only to facilitate the match-making between the donors and the beneficiaries.
Appreciating the step, the prime minister said the Pakistani nation had always faced the difficult times with strong determination and had always supported the weaker segments through generous donations.
Earlier, Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Social Protection Dr Sania Nishtar briefed the prime minister said the portal would also provide protection of information about the deserving people.
She informed that a mobile app will also be launched in the next two days to facilitate the ration distribution to deserving families. The prime minister hailed the initiative and said it will also make the ration distribution system completely transparent and merit-based.
Under the programme, donors and potential beneficiaries can register on the Ehsaas Rashan Portal. The information will be validated and eligibility of beneficiaries will be determined using Ehsaas data.
Donors will be evaluated against a specific eligibility criterion to ensure only trustworthy, tax compliant organisations become partners of the program. After signing data privacy agreements, beneficiary information will be shared with donors to ensure the disbursement of food ration packs or cash equivalent to beneficiaries.
The government will ensure one person from family gets benefit and will monitor delivery on a sample basis. The private sector will be responsible for establishing mechanism for sourcing and disbursement of rations or cash equivalent for beneficiaries. Donors will be given a list of parameters to select from to identify which segment of the beneficiaries they want to support.
There are two categories of donors that the government is looking including profit-making private organizations and non-profit private organisations. The government will collaborate with large corporate donors with annual revenue of at least RS 2billion willing to donate at least Rs10million in ration packs or cash equivalent.
