The Punjab government has decided to establish tourism Police in the Province to provide better security to local tourists and international tourists, according to media reports.
The Chief Minister, Maryam Nawaz, has issued directives to swiftly act upon the establishment of the force.
Initially, the tourism police force will be deployed at major cities in the Province, including the provincial capital Lahore. Other cities include Murree, Nankana Sahib, Bahawalpur, and Kartarpur.
The force will report to the Inspector General (IG) of Punjab Police, with Regional Police Officers (RPOs) and District Police Officers (DPOs) in the respective areas overseeing local operations.
The Chief Minister has decided to equip the force with advanced technology and vehicles to safeguard tourists in the areas.
The Tourism Police’s major goal is to offer a secure and inviting atmosphere for visitors, while also assuring the safety and security of important tourist spots around Punjab.
The tourist police will be completely independent and will be kept free from all other policing tasks.
