ISLAMABAD: The Federal Minister for Power Engineer Khurram Dastgir has said that using coal, up to 100,000 megawatt of electricity, adding that Thar coal has reserves to the estimated tune of 1.75 billion tons.
Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, he said Shanghai Thar Coal Power Project had started generating 2640 Megawatt electricity utilizing the local fuel, which will not only control the load-shedding, but also help in reducing the electricity prices.
The federal minister said the PDM government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, made hectic efforts to produce electricity using local fuel and succeeded to add 1980 Megawatts electricity from Thar Coal in the system during the past ten months.
He claimed that PM had directed to conduct load shedding as less as possible, and that by generating power from domestic sources, the cost of electricity would also come down.
