Pakistanis spent $547.4 million on importing tea during the first 10 months of this financial year, a report said on Saturday. According to the Pakistan Statistical Institute report, the import of tea has increased by 17 percent in the first 10 months of this financial year. Compared to the $467.6 million worth of tea imported during the same period last fiscal year, the current year saw a notable increase.
A total of 219,066 tons of tea were imported, marking a 15 percent increase compared to the 190,830 tons imported in the first 10 months of the last financial year. However, tea imports witnessed a 10 percent decline in April 2024 compared to March 2024.
Reports indicate that tea worth $52.2 million was imported in April 2024, whereas tea worth $58.5 million was imported in March 2024.
It is noteworthy that tea is a common beverage in Pakistan, with almost every person consuming more than one cup of tea daily, while the country is producing very little tea.
