LAHORE: A petition has been filed in the Lahore High Court (LHC) against private schools asking fees for the current month despite their closure till 31st May.
The petition was filed by a non-governmental organization (NGO) that stated that the private educational institutes had demanded to deposit three months’ fees to their bank accounts despite the closure of schools since last month due to the lockdown.
The petition stated that the demands for fee deposits are in blatant violation of the Constitution and are also in violation of the LHC’s orders as Article 25-A of the Constitution gives the right to free education.
The petitioner has requested the LHC to order the private schools to avoid demanding fee deposits during the coronavirus outbreak. The government had closed all public and private educational institutes till 31st May across the country due to the outbreak of the coronavirus disease.
Moreover, Punjab Minister for Schools Education Dr. Murad Raas earlier on Tuesday ordered owners of private schools to cut 20 percent fees for the months of April and May amid the coronavirus epidemic.
