ISLAMABAD: The federal government has collected a record Rs2,725 billion under the petroleum levy from citizens over the past two years, according to official documents.
The data shows that from April 2024 to March 2026, Pakistan collected Rs2,725 billion under the petroleum levy, a figure that exceeds the combined size of both International Monetary Fund (IMF) loan programmes for the country when converted into rupees.
Officials noted that the total value of the IMF programmes stands at approximately Rs2,340 billion at current exchange rates.
According to the documents, during the first nine months of the current fiscal year (July 2025 to March 2026), over Rs1,205 billion was collected under the petroleum levy.
In the previous fiscal year 2024–25, the government generated around Rs1,220.21 billion through the petroleum levy.
Additionally, from April to June 2024, the quarterly collection stood at Rs299.63 billion under the petroleum levy, reflecting a consistent rise in revenue from fuel-related taxation.
