KARACHI: Some parts of Karachi received light showers on Monday, providing some relief to people amid the recent humidity spell in the city. The temperature has dropped to 34°C in the provincial capital.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) in its latest update has now stated that the monsoon rain weather system has weakened and moved to the south-southwest of Karachi and only light, scattered, showers can be expected in the city.
Drizzle occurred at Shahrah-e-Faisal, Sohrab Goth, and nearby areas, while heavy rains pounded Gadap Town, Kathore, Nooriabad and adjacent areas.
Safoora Chowrangi, Gulistan-e-Johar, Surjani Town, Taisar Town, Yousuf Goth, New Karachi, Khuda Ki Basti and Manghopir areas of the city also received some rain.
Earlier, PMD Chief Sardar Sarfaraz said rain-thunderstorms with isolated heavy falls were expected in Karachi in the afternoon around 2pm on Monday and there is no danger of urban flooding in the city.
Over 40mm of rain can be received in low-lying areas, he added.
Apart from Karachi, Mirpurkhas, Dadu, Keti Bandar, Garho, Kharo Chhan, and Thatta also received rainfall.
Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfaraz earlier predicted that the rain spell today will likely to continue till late in the night.
