There was a time when Pakistan was renowned worldwide for its sporting achievements, excelling in sports such as hockey, squash, cricket, and others (this discussion is about events before 1992). However, suddenly, Pakistan continued to showcase outstanding performances in cricket but faced continuous failures in comparison to other sports.
Now, if we talk about the current generation of young Pakistanis, they are not only achieving victories in various sports but also projecting Pakistan’s soft image to the world, portraying it as a rising nation.
Regarding sports achievements, recently, Pakistan’s cricket team won the Emerging Asia Cup in Sri Lanka, defeating India in the final and earning the title of Asia Cup. After that, Hamza Khan won the Junior Squash Championship in Australia, repeating Pakistan’s history of achievements in squash, which was previously upheld by legends like Jahangir Khan and Jansher Khan, who had maintained the streak of victories for many years.
Similarly, in the Gamers 8 Tekken 7 Nation Cup, Pakistan secured the first position and defeated South Korea in the final, once again shining the country’s name. Players like Arslan Ash, Atif Butt, Omar Khan, and Mahir Ali Khan also played crucial roles in achieving Pakistan’s victories in gaming competitions.
All these achievements hold their significance, but it is essential to remember that in the 2020 Olympics, where teams from all over the world compete, and more than 100 games take place, and Olympic medals hold immense prestige and motivation globally, Pakistan’s athletes couldn’t secure any medals.
This is evidence that somewhere, the essential elements required for boosting athletes’ motivation are lacking, and addressing this issue is crucial for enhancing their performance.
All the athletes showcasing outstanding performances are achieving these victories through their hard work and determination. However, our government and sports boards should also support them financially and strengthen their abilities so that they can continue elevating Pakistan’s name in the future.
