ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has surpassed the grim milestone of 24,000 deaths from the novel coronavirus on Tuesday as the nation struggles with the rising number of cases amid the fourth wave.
According to the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), Pakistan reported 3,884 cases and 86 deaths in the previous 24-hour period. The national tally of coronavirus cases stands at 1,075,504 while the death toll has reached 24,004.
The positivity ratio was recorded at 7.84%. There were 49,506 tests conducted in the previous day leading to new cases. The number of active cases in the country has surged to 84,427 as the situation worsens amid across the country.
There are 4,530 people who remain in critical condition including 725 new patients in the previous day. Overall 967,073 people have recovered from the virus, including 2,669 in the past day.
Sindh has recorded the highest number of cases and remains the worst affected region. The province has recorded 401,790 cases and 6,235 deaths while the number of active cases has reached 48,096.
Punjab has recorded 365,824 cases and 11,239 deaths, while the number of active cases in the province has reached 18,507. Islamabad has recorded 91,219 cases and 821 deaths while there are 5,031 active cases in the federal capital.
The number of cases in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa stands at 149,056 and 4,570 deaths while Balochistan has recorded 31,234 cases and 332 deaths. Gilgit Baltistan had recorded 8,876 cases and 157 deaths while Azad Kashmir has recorded 25,507 cases and 650 deaths.
