Pakistan registered a 9.30 per cent increase in total debt annually, State Bank of Pakistan’s data showed.
According to statistics released by State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), in March 2026, Pakistan’s total debt showed Rs6836 billion.
The State Bank of Pakistan further stated that during March 2026, Rs6048 billion was registered in local debt.
The federal government’s local debt reached to Rs57,566 billion, the State Bank of Pakistan said. In March 2026 an increase of Rs789 was recorded in foreign debt in March 2026.
The foreign debt owned by the federal government touched to Rs22,959 billion. In March 2026 the foreign debt decreased by Rs244 billion.
The federal government failed to achieve gross-domestic growth (GDP) and agriculture and industrial targets set for the current fiscal year.
The services sector showed strong growth. The National Accounts Committee also approved the figures in this connection.
Pakistan is likely to achieve GDP growth 3.70pc with a target of 4.2 percent.
