ISLAMABAD: In another setback for inflation-hit consumers, the government has once again increased the prices of petroleum products, raising the price of petrol by Rs1.19 per litre.
According to a notification issued by the Petroleum Division following approval by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA), the new petrol price has taken effect from midnight, bringing the price to an all-time high of Rs394.83 per litre.
The government has also reduced the price of high-speed diesel by Rs1.91 per litre, bringing it down to Rs395.85 per litre.
However, the increase in petrol prices is expected to add to inflationary pressures, particularly as petrol is widely used for transportation and other day-to-day activities.
Public circles and economic analysts have criticized the government’s petroleum pricing policy, with citizens saying that frequent changes in fuel prices are adding to the difficulties faced by ordinary people.
It may be recalled that the government had previously increased the price of petrol by 88 paisas per litre, adding to the financial pressure on consumers.
The latest adjustment comes amid continued concerns over rising living costs, with consumers calling for greater relief from the impact of higher fuel prices.
