ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has reported 4,040 coronavirus cases and 53 deaths on Monday, as the positivity ratio remains high in urban centres as the government tightens restrictions.
According to the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), Pakistan reported 4,040 cases and 53 deaths in the previous 24-hour period. The national tally of coronavirus cases has reached 1,071,620 while the death toll stands at 23,918.
The positivity ratio was recorded at 7.54%. There were 53,528 tests conducted in the previous day leading to new cases. The number of active cases in the country has also increased to 83,298 as the situation remains concerning.
There are 3,805 people who remain in critical condition. Overall 964,404 people have recovered from the virus, including 2,765 in the past day.
Sindh has become the first province to record 400,000 cases and remains the worst affected region. The province has recorded 400,400 cases and 6,215 deaths while the number of active cases has reached 47,769.
Punjab has recorded 364,680 cases and 11,201 deaths, while the number of active cases in the province has reached 17,949. Islamabad has recorded 90,660 cases and 816 deaths while there are 4,788 active cases in the federal capital.
The number of cases in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa stands at 148,619 and 4,556 deaths while Balochistan has recorded 31,177 cases and 331 deaths. Gilgit Baltistan had recorded 8,796 cases and 153 deaths while Azad Kashmir has recorded 27,288 cases and 646 deaths.
Karachi and Lahore continued to report a surge in coronavirus cases. Karachi reported an alarming 21.40% coronavirus positivity ratio on Monday while Sindh has become the first province to report 400,000 cases.
The Sindh government decided to relax the nine-day lockdown period across the province after witnessing a decline in number of cases. Business and commercial activities resume to normal as dhops, markets, shopping malls closed during the lockdown orders reopened Monday morning.
Lahore reported the highest positivity ratio amid the fourth wave of the pandemic. The city has reported a coronavirus positivity ratio of 9.2%.
Rawalpindi and Islamabad reported 16% and 5% coronavirus positivity ratios. Pakistan reported a slight decline in coronavirus cases as the country’s positivity ratio fell to 7.54%.
