ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Information Atta Tarar has strongly criticised the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), saying the party must now make its position clear on whether it stands with Pakistan or Afghanistan.
Speaking at a press conference in Islamabad, Tarar said Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was facing a serious security crisis, with terrorism affecting the lives of people across the province. He claimed that despite the situation, the provincial leadership’s attention remained focused primarily on securing the release of a political prisoner.
Taking aim at Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, the information minister alleged that he had failed on both administrative and political fronts. Tarar further claimed that residents of the province were forced to travel to other provinces even for basic facilities.
The federal minister also alleged that the provincial government had failed to effectively tackle terrorism. He further claimed that PTI leaders had not condemned what he described as unprovoked firing from Afghanistan.
Talal Chaudhry Questions PTI’s Afghanistan Policy
Speaking on the occasion, Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry questioned what he described as PTI’s soft stance towards the Afghan government and Afghan elements.
Chaudhry claimed that bulletproof vehicles provided to the provincial government had been returned. He also alleged that the new police law introduced in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was aimed at reducing the powers of the police and weakening the force.
