Pakistan is considering importing cheaper oil and gas from Iran as part of efforts to reduce energy costs and ease pressure on consumers, according to the Federal Petroleum Ministry.

As per details, Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik has said that the government is reviewing options to purchase cheaper oil and gas from Iran, as global energy prices show a declining trend.

Speaking to the media in Lahore, Malik said the benefits of recent reductions in international petroleum prices have been passed on to consumers, adding that the government provided even greater relief than last week’s price cut.

The minister said that stability has now returned to the region following the end of the Iran-US conflict, which has contributed to a drop in global oil prices.

He added that the government remains active in adjusting domestic fuel prices in line with international markets, and that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif ensured the benefits were quickly transferred to the public.

Malik also alleged that certain elements were spreading misinformation about fuel pricing and reaffirmed that Pakistan would continue to operate within international agreements.

Meanwhile, local media reports citing sources in the Petroleum Division said the government has increased the petroleum levy on diesel and petrol, while keeping fuel prices unchanged for the next week.

The levy on diesel rose by Rs6.57 per liter to Rs79.54, while petrol increased by Rs0.39 to Rs66.64 per liter. The levy on kerosene remains unchanged at Rs20.36 per liter.
