RAWALPINDI: Belgium and Pakistan agreed Friday to optimise military-to-military ties, especially in defence production, training, counter-terrorism and intelligence domains, said the military’s media wing.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa, who is on an official visit to Belgium, called on Minister of Defence Ludivine Dedonder, Chief of Defence Admiral Michel Hofman and Chief of Staff of the Land Component Belgium Major General Pierre Gerard.
During the meeting matters of mutual interest, overall regional security situation and bilateral relations were discussed, the military’s media wing added. Both sides agreed to further optimise military-to-military ties particularly in defence production, training, counter-terrorism and intelligence domains.
“Pakistan values its bilateral relations with Belgium,” the ISPR quoted Gen Qamar as saying. The military’s media wing said that the Belgian dignitaries acknowledged the professionalism of Pakistan’s armed forces.
They also appreciated Pakistan’s sincere efforts for peace and stability in the region and reiterated earnest desire for enhancing bilateral cooperation in all domains, it added.
A day earlier, General Qamar called on Secretary-General of the European External Action Services (EEAS) Stefano Sannino and Chairman of the EU Military Committee General Claudio Graziano during his official visit.
During the meeting matters of mutual interest, overall regional security situation including the current situation in Afghanistan and bilateral relations with EU were discussed, the ISPR said in a statement on Thursday.
“Pakistan values its relations with EU countries and earnestly look forward to enhance mutual cooperation based on common interests,” the military’s media wing quoted Gen Qamar as saying.
