LAHORE: Pakistan captain Babar Azam registered another record in the second one-day international (ODI) against Australia as he scored 114 runs, leaving cricketer-turned-politician Prime Minister Imran Khan behind.
A day earlier, Pakistan completed their highest successful run chase in one-day internationals when they chased down a mammoth target of 349 to beat Australia by six wickets in Lahore to level the series at 1-1.
Chasing the mighty total of 348, Pakistan skipper played a crucial inning as he smashed a blistering hundred. During the process, Babar has overtaken Imran Khan’s record of most runs scored as a captain against the Aussies.
Imran Khan played an 82-run inning against Australia back in 1990, which means that Babar has broken the record after almost 32 years. Babar’s phenomenal innings included 11 boundaries and one maximum. Babar, who has often been criticized for scoring at a slower pace, played with a strike rate of 137.34.
Here are the highest individual scores by a Pakistani captain against Australia:
Babar Azam – 114 (2022)
Imran Khan – 82 (1990)
Javed Miandad – 74* (1987)
Meanwhile, Babar Azam also became the fastest batter in the world to score 15 one-day international (ODI) centuries.
The marquee batter has reached the milestone in 83 innings, surpassing South African legend Hashim Amla who got to 15 centuries mark in 86 innings. No other batter could score 15 centuries in less than 100 innings.
