ISLAMABAD: The federal government on Wednesday removed Muhammad Aamir Zulfiqar Khan from the post of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad, according to a government notification.
“Qazi Jami-ur-Rehman, a BS-20 Officer of Police Service of Pakistan, presently serving under Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, is transferred and posted as Inspector General, Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Police, under Interior Division, in his own pay and scale, with immediate effect and until further orders,” read a notification issued to this effect.
Relevant sources have informed that demands had been made for changing the IG in the wake of a 22-year-old Osama Satti’s murder at the hands of Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) men in an alleged staged shootout in Islamabad.
Qazi Jamilur Rehman, a BS-20 officer, has been appointed the Islamabad IG. He was previously working under the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, said a government notification.
The new IG has served as Hazara DIG, Special Branch DIG, and Peshawar city police chief. Rehman has replaced Muhammad Aamir Zulfiqar Khan, who took charge of the post in November 2018.
The transfer comes a few days after a young man was killed on January 2 when Islamabad police personnel opened fire at him for not stopping his car near Sector G-10.
Policemen Mudassir, Shakeel Ahmed, Muhammad Mustafa, Saeed Ahmed, and Iftikhar Ahmed were arrested after the deceased’s family claimed that Usama Satti, 21, was killed because of an earlier fight with a policeman.
