FAISALABAD: At least one person was killed and three others injured after police opened fire on a vehicle in Faisalabad.
According to police, a patrolling team indicated a vehicle to stop during snap checking a checkpoint near Ada Phalor. However, police claimed the driver refused and sped away prompting police to open fire on the vehicle, killing one person and injuring three others.
The victim was identified as Sardar Waqas, who is a resident of Samundari area of the city. The police claimed that Waqas and others in the vehicles had consumed alcohol. The deceased and injured were shifted to a local hospital for medico-legal formalities and treatment respectively.
Local residents along with heirs of the victim staged a protest against the incident and blocked Samundari Road for all kinds of traffic by burning tyres. The heirs of Sardar Waqas also alleged that police were refused to hand over the dead body to them.
Faisalabad CCPO took notice of the incident and launched an inquiry. The four accused police officers, including sub-inspector Shahid Manzoor, have been arrested and an FIR has been registered against them.
