The second season of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi has received mixed reactions, with some praising its nostalgic appeal while others have criticized the similar plotlines and production quality.

Negative reviews from both Pakistani and Indian audiences suggested a broader drop in appeal of the drama that have changed Indian drama industry for decade.

There are other reasons as well why Pakistanis are not watching Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2.

First of all, due to the long-standing ban on Indian content and the country’s preference for its own successful drama industry.

In 2018, Pakistan’s Supreme Court reinstated a ban on the broadcast of Indian content on Pakistani channels, overruling a lower court decision.

The ban also extends to digital platforms. In the current year, Indian YouTube news channels and websites were blocked in Pakistan, although the extent of this ban on entertainment streaming is unclear.

On the other hand, Pakistan’s own television industry has moved beyond the traditional “saas-bahu” (mother-in-law, daughter-in-law) conflicts that characterized older Indian serials, offering a wider variety of plots.

Pakistani dramas have gained significant popularity because of their relatable, grounded, and character-driven narratives, unlike often melodramatic and unrealistic plots of some other Indian TV serials.
