Board of Secondary Education Karachi (BSEK) has announced that female candidates appearing in Class IX and X examinations will not be required to remove their veils at examination centers.
Chairman Ghulam Hussain said that no incidents of cheating involving female students have been reported, and therefore there is no justification for enforcing such a measure.
He stressed that any attempt to compel students to remove burqas or abayas would invite strict disciplinary action.
The chairman also instructed authorities to ensure that only female invigilators are deployed at centers designated for female candidates.
The annual matriculation examinations, conducted under BSEK, commenced last week across Karachi. However, several students have reported facing difficulties due to inadequate facilities at examination venues.
At a government school in Malir, candidates were forced to sit for their exams in extreme heat without fans or proper ventilation, highlighting infrastructure shortcomings.
Concerns over examination management have also emerged following reports that a Computer Studies paper for the morning shift was leaked, raising questions about the board’s ability to ensure transparency and security.
