Controversial internet personality Andrew Tate, who has spent months in a Romanian jail on suspicion of human trafficking, has won an appeal to replace his detention with house arrest.
The Bucharest Court of Appeal ruled in favor of Tate’s appeal, which challenged a judge’s decision last week to extend his arrest a fourth time for 30 days, said Ramona Bolla, a spokesperson for Romania’s anti-organized crime agency, DIICOT.
Tate 36 year old British-U.S. citizen who has 5.5 million Twitter followers, was initially detained in late December in Romania’s capital Bucharest, along with his brother Tristan and two Romanian women. All four won an appeal Friday, and will remain under house arrest until April 29, Bolla said.

Tate rose to fame in 2016 when he was removed from the British TV show Big Brother over a video that appeared to show him attacking a woman. However, he still remains a notorious public figure, making occasional appearances on social media.
The 35-year-old has been described as a ‘sexist’ and ‘misogynist’ by several people because of his controversial statements. Due to his controversial beliefs, he was banned from all social media platforms, including YouTube, Instagram, Twitter, and TikTok, on 29 August. Earlier in October, there were reports that the controversial kickboxer-turned-misogynistic influencer allegedly converted to Islam.
