KARACHI: The city police have directed officials to ensure that all businesses and restaurants in the city are closed down by 8pm on New Year’s Eve (today).
In a notification dated Oct 30 and addressed to all the deputy commissioners, the office of the Karachi commissioner said that “owing to security reasons and on the request of the police department […] please ensure the closure of all restaurants and business places at 8pm on the eve of New Year 2021”. However, citizens will be allowed to visit Sea view for celebrations.
During a meeting of all deputy commissioners and senior police and government officials yesterday, it was decided that standard operating procedures (SOPs) for curbing the spread of the coronavirus would be “implemented in letter and spirit”.
Talking to M.M news, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) District South Zubair Nazeer Shaikh, with the exception of medical stores, all the shops in Clifton, Khadda Market, and Boat Basin will remain closed from 8pm onwards.
SSP Nazeer said that all the citizens will be allowed to visit the Seaview, adding that authorities will not be blocking the roads with containers.
He further said action will be taken against those who drive cars or bikes without silencers, meanwhile, the residents of the Defence Housing Authority (DHA) will be allowed to drive around after showing their ID cards.
