KARACHI: Despite facing severe shortages of natural gas and occasional unavailability, the Sui Southern Gas Company has issued notifications regarding the estimation and payment of monthly rates for domestic consumers based on directives from OGRA.
The new tariff, implemented since November, classifies domestic consumers into two categories: “non-protected” and “protected.” Under this system, consumers using an average of 91 CM or more gas during the 4-month period from November to February fall into the “non-protected” category, while those using less than 90 are categorized as “protected.”
In the “Protected” category, consumers will be subject to a fixed charge of Rs400 on every bill. The minimum bill for a “protected” consumer is set at Rs650, and the maximum is Rs1350. For “Non-Protected” consumers, the bill ranges from Rs1440 to Rs87000. Both categories’ bills include a meter rent of Rs400 and 18% General Sales Tax, irrespective of gas usage.
A “non-protected” consumer is required to pay a fixed charge ranging from Rs1000 to Rs2000 on 150CM. The average bill amount will increase with higher gas usage in both categories.
