ISLAMABAD: The Meteorological Department has warned that a fresh spell of monsoon rains is set to enter the country, prompting authorities to maintain a nationwide alert. Heavy showers accompanied by thunderstorms are expected in the upper and central regions from today (Saturday) through July 25, raising concerns of urban flooding and landslides in vulnerable districts.
According to the advisory, thundershowers are likely in Islamabad, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit‑Baltistan and Kashmir, with isolated heavy downpours that may trigger landslides and flooding in rivers and canals across mountainous terrain.
Officials cautioned that strong winds and lightning could damage weak structures, urging residents to take precautionary measures.
Cloudy weather is forecast in several districts of Balochistan between July 19 and 23, while most parts of Sindh will continue to experience hot and humid conditions. However, rain is predicted in Tharparkar, Mithi, Sukkur, Larkana and Jacobabad from July 20 to 24.
The NDMA has directed all concerned agencies to remain on high alert, mobilize rescue teams, and ensure uninterrupted supplies of food, fuel and medicines.
Citizens have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel, particularly in hilly areas where landslides and road blockages are likely, and to cooperate with local administrations during emergencies.
Authorities reiterated that timely preparedness and strict adherence to safety advisories are essential to minimizing the impact of the approaching monsoon system.
