The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has taken strict action against Bahria Town Karachi on corruption charges and has frozen 16 bank accounts, media reported on Tuesday.
As per the report, the NAB has filed a petition in the Accountability Court, stating that the accused earned billions of rupees by illegally occupying more than 16,000 acres of government land.
The petition has sought confirmation of freezing the accounts of Bahria Town Private Limited and Muhammad Siddiqui Majid.
According to NAB, orders have been issued to freeze an amount of Rs 25 billion, while commercial activities of Bahria Town Karachi have also been stopped.
A reference has also been filed in the Accountability Court Karachi against Malik Riaz and other accused, and NAB has requested the court to confirm the orders of the DG NAB.
This action was taken in light of the 2018 Supreme Court judgment, which declared the allotment of government land to Bahria Town as illegal.
Furthermore, NAB has intensified investigations into allegations of fraud with public and illegal occupation of government land.
