KARACHI: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan on Monday demanded the cancellation of K-Electric’s licence, citing prolonged and unannounced power outages across the city during extreme heat.

In a statement, party leaders said several areas of Karachi were experiencing up to 21 hours of load-shedding, leaving residents and businesses grappling with severe hardship.

They criticised the power utility for what they termed a “complete failure” to provide relief to citizens despite soaring temperatures, adding that the situation had made routine life increasingly difficult.

The MQM-P urged the authorities to take immediate notice of the crisis and revoke the company’s operating licence, arguing that it had failed to fulfil its responsibilities.

Calling for urgent intervention, the party also demanded that uninterrupted electricity supply be ensured across the metropolis and that those responsible for the ongoing outages be held accountable.
