A teenage girl from Abbas Town in Karachi was found in Punjab’s Rahim Yar Khan, where she was reportedly married.
Asma, an eighth-grade student, went missing after visiting a friend on the second day of Eid (April 11).
Her family couldn’t find her and went to Sachal Police Station to report her disappearance. They said the police didn’t act quickly to find her. They filed a complaint under Section 365 B of the Pakistan Penal Code, which deals with kidnapping and forced marriage.
The family thinks a man named Asif convinced Asma to leave. They found Asif’s brother, Shabbir, who admitted that Asif took Asma to Rahim Yar Khan. The police let Shabbir go after questioning him.
When Shabbir was caught, Asif’s father called Asma’s family and let them talk to her on the phone. Asma’s family worries about her safety and doesn’t accept her marriage. They want the people involved to be arrested and Asma to come home.
The police said Shabbir, who drives a rickshaw, is Asif’s brother but wasn’t mentioned in the first report. Shabbir was released on bail, and the police confirmed Asma allegedly married Asif in Rahim Yar Khan.
The police plan to send a team to Punjab to arrest Asif and bring Asma back. They need permission from the Home Department for this.
