PESHAWAR: A four-year-old girl, who was in Saudi Arabia after her mother was impriosoned for attempting to smuggle heroin, has returned to Pakistan.
The minor girl, named Emaan, reached Peshawar from Pakistan International Airline flight PK-0736 where she was received by her uncle and Overseas Pakistani Foundation. Her returned has been made possible due to the efforts of prime minister’s special assistant Zulfiqar Bukhari.
A Pakistani woman, Rani Bibi, traveled to Jeddah May last year along with her daughter, where she was arrested and sent to jail by Saudi police on heroin smuggling charges. The woman is likely to be awarded the death penalty or life imprisonment by the Saudi government.
Zulfiqar Bukhari contacted officials of Saudi overseas ministry, on the directives of Prime Minister Imran Khan, and requested to send return the child back Pakistan.
The Saudi authorities approved the request and granted permission allowing the minor girl to travel back to her native country. She was kept in a social protection cell in Saudi Arabia after her mother was jailed.
