KARACHI: Heatwave-like conditions are expected to hit the southern half of Pakistan as the daytime temperatures are likely to rise gradually during the week, according to the Met Office.
Due to the presence of high pressure in the upper atmosphere, temperatures are expected to increase gradually, particularly in Sindh, South Punjab, and parts of Balochistan, from 10th to 13th May.
The Met Office has warned that daytime temperatures are likely to remain 03-05°Celsius above normal in Sindh, South Punjab, and parts of Balochistan, while 02-03°C above normal in upper and central Punjab, Islamabad, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir.
In its forecast for May 11 and 12, the Met Department says that mainly hot and dry weather is expected in most areas of the country, but heatwave-like conditions may develop in South Punjab, Sindh, and parts of Balochistan. The farmers have been advised to manage the watering of crops accordingly, while the general public has been cautioned to avoid unnecessary exposure to direct sunlight and judicious use of water.
With the potential for heatwave-like conditions to occur, it is important for people in the affected regions to take extra precautions. Authorities have recommended that people stay indoors during the hottest parts of the day, wear lightweight and light-colored clothing, and keep themselves hydrated. In addition, people are advised to avoid strenuous activities outdoors during the hottest parts of the day.
