Met Office raises alarm as cyclone 'Tej' looms over Karachi, Gwadar

KARACHI: Mayor of Karachi, Waseem Akhtar declared emergency in the city after the MET office made predictions about cyclone Kyarr.
According to sources, the mayor released directives to concerned authorities and gave them clear instructions regarding the unforeseen situation in the metropolis.
He instructed them to stay on-duty to tackle the unpredictable condition that the cyclone may cause. 
Waseem Akhtar also urged electricity and water divisions of the city to make no compromise on the service.

He also issued directives for the welfare of the residence and encourage them to avoid standing near electricity poles and trees.
Earlier on Monday, Cyclonic storm Kyarr transformed into a super cyclone with 5 category intensity. Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) also added that Cyclone Kyarr was 860 km away from the metropolis.
Light downpour with lightning and sandstorms were expected in lower Sindh region. The PMD warned fisher-folk to maintain considerable distance from deep waters.
