A massive explosion occurred at a large oil refinery located in the coastal city of Port Arthur, Texas, sending thick black smoke rising into the sky.
According to the Associated Press, immediately after the incident on Monday, local authorities urged nearby residents to stay indoors and avoid going outside to protect themselves from any potential hazards.
The explosion took place at the Valero Refinery, approximately 145 kilometers from Houston. The city’s mayor, Charlotte M. Moses, provided details to the media, stating that, fortunately, no casualties or injuries have been reported so far.

She sadi that residents in the western parts of the city should remain in place while firefighting teams work at the site to control the blaze. The mayor added that although the explosion was significant, all employees and local residents are safe.
The incident comes at a time of global uncertainty in oil supply due to the ongoing conflict involving Iran, which has also contributed to rising petroleum product prices.
According to Valero’s website, the refinery employs around 770 people and has the capacity to process 435,000 barrels of crude oil per day, producing petrol, diesel, and marine fuel.
