A man has been arrested after allegedly opening aerial fire near the vehicle of Federal Information Minister Ataullah Tarar in Lahore’s Defence A area, police said.
According to police, the incident occurred late Saturday night when a young man driving a car reportedly overtook the minister’s vehicle and allegedly fired several shots into the air.
Following the incident, authorities used Safe City Authority surveillance cameras and other advanced monitoring technology to trace the suspect. Police later arrested the accused, identified as Usama, and seized the vehicle allegedly used in the incident.
Confirming the incident, Information Minister Ataullah Tarar said he was travelling through Defence with his family when a car passed his vehicle from the left and fired five shots.
Tarar said he immediately pursued the suspect’s vehicle and alerted a nearby police checkpoint. Acting on the information, police intercepted the vehicle and arrested the suspect.
Police said the investigation is ongoing and officers are examining all aspects of the case to determine the motive behind the firing.
Authorities are also investigating whether it was merely an act of aerial firing or if there was another intention behind the incident.
