KARACHI: Sindh Local Government Minister Naseer Hussain Shah has imposed an emergency across all municipal institutions in the province, including Karachi, in view of the expected rainfall.
According to sources, the relevant departments have been directed to remain on high alert to prevent possible difficulties for citizens and ensure an effective drainage system during the rains. The leaves of officers and employees of the concerned departments, including the Water Corporation, have also been cancelled.
The provincial local government minister directed the authorities to keep dewatering pumps, machinery and other essential resources fully operational so that any emergency arising during the rainfall could be dealt with promptly.
Naseer Hussain Shah further instructed the relevant institutions to ensure the uninterrupted flow of water through storm-water drains and waterways and prevent any obstruction to the drainage system.
Meanwhile, the provincial minister urged citizens to exercise caution during severe weather. He advised people to avoid standing under trees and advertising billboards during heavy rain and strong winds to protect themselves from possible accidents.
