MUMBAI: Legendary Indian playback singer Asha Bhosle, whose voice defined generations of Hindi cinema, passed away on Sunday at the age of 92.
She breathed her last at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai, where she had been admitted the previous evening after complaints of extreme exhaustion and a chest infection. Doctors later confirmed that her condition deteriorated rapidly, with cardiac and respiratory complications leading to multi-organ failure.
Hospital authorities, including Dr. Pratit Samdani, confirmed the news, while her son Anand Bhosle also issued a statement. Earlier, her granddaughter Zanai Bhosle had shared news of her hospital admission on social media, requesting privacy for the family.
Asha Bhosle, often celebrated as one of the greatest playback singers in Indian cinema, leaves behind a legacy of timeless songs that spanned over seven decades. Her passing marks the end of an era in Indian music.
