LAHORE: A police official committed suicide by shooting himself in the temple near Garden Town police station in Lahore.
According to police sources, a father of six, Abdul Majeed, was an assistant sub-inspector in the investigation wing since 2019.
Lahore Operations Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Faisal Shahzad said Abdul Majeed used a 30 bore pistol to end his own life when he was at his workplace.
Citing details, the police officials said, a young son of the deceased ASI had died, while another got paralyzed in a road accident a couple of years back.
Since then, he was mentally disturbed and on medication suggested by a psychiatrist, the SSP said, adding that he might have taken his life for these reasons.
He said Majeed joined his duty at 7: 00 am on Saturday as per routine. Later, went to his room in the police station and shot himself.
On hearing the gunshot, his colleagues rushed to the site and found him lying dead in a pool of blood with a pistol near his body.
