A female driver, apparently in a fit of rage, ran over a traffic officer in the capital city after being stopped for a violation. Despite some media outlets asserting that she is the wife of anchorperson Amir Mateen, Senior journalist and anchorperson Hamid Mir has dismissed these claims.
A widely circulated online clip depicts the woman in a Honda Civic engaging in a heated argument, shouting at the traffic cop who had halted her at a toll plaza in Islamabad. The woman, whose identity remains undisclosed by the capital police, can be heard hurling insults at the police official, who attempted to film her and urge her to calm down.
In the heat of the moment, the woman driver warned another traffic police officer to move aside. Upon his refusal, she drove her car into him, causing him to be thrown into the air before she fled the scene. A police patrol car was seen pursuing her. The Islamabad Traffic Police confirmed that the incident occurred in January of this year and that the woman was charged for her actions.
According to a report from the local digital media outlet Pakistan24, the female driver has allegedly fled abroad. While social media users have speculated that the woman is the wife of anchorperson Amir Mateen, Mir did not directly address Mateen but asserted that the journalist in question had “no wife.”
“Whatever this woman did was wrong, an FIR was also registered against the woman, action should have been taken against her, but how did the controversy start? Some touts of the intelligence agencies are declaring this woman to be the wife of a senior journalist. The intelligence agencies do not know that the said journalist does not even have a wife,” Hamid Mir said.
Some users claimed that Mateen had divorced his wife 16 years ago.
