KARACHI: Anti-terrorism Court today (Wednesday) has acquitted chief of the outlawed Peoples Aman Committee (PAC) Uzair Jan Baloch in three more cases due to lack of evidence against them.
The court announced its reserved verdict on an application moved by the accused seeking his acquittal in the three cases registered at Kalri police station. The cases pertained to attack police using explosive material.
The judge noted that the prosecution failed to prove charges against accused Uzair Baloch and his accomplice. He exonerated them of the charges due to a lack of evidence.
Baloch had been arrested by the Rangers on January 30, 2016. In April 2017, his custody was handed over to the Pakistan Army after he was accused of espionage. The Army handed him over to the police on April 6, 2020, after three years.
The PAC chief, who is nominated in around 60 criminal cases pending trial before different sessions and anti-terrorism courts, has so far been acquitted in almost nine cases ever since the army transferred his custody after he was convicted of ‘espionage’ by a military court.
