PULWANA: A Kashmiri journalist Kamran Yousuf associated with a multimedia firm works with Newsclick, was arrested by Pulwama police.
The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) and its associate the Indian Journalists Union (IJU) condemn Yousuf’s unlawful detention.
According to details, Indian police officers led by the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) and Station House Officer (SHO) delimited Kamran Yousuf’s house in Kashmir’s Pulwama district and he was taken by police to the DSP Pulwana office.
Yousef informed the IFJ representative that the police asked him to come with them and took his phones. During the interrogation at the police station, police accused him of running a fake Twitter account.
they accused on February 16 a video of the freedom leader in Kashmir Syed Ali Geelani had been shared through the account. he said he never used such an account other’s name.
Yousuf further said the police checked his cell phone and asked about the Twitter account. He was released two hours later at 1 am on February 17.
On the other hand, Kashmir Press Club journalists said police’s nocturnal raid at the house of a journalist has once again highlighted the dangers faced by journalists in the Valley.
It further said Kashmir Press Club demanded the union home minister as well as the J&K government to take action against such rampant harassment of journalists.
