Karachi’s water supply affected as Dhabeji pipeline bursts again

KARACHI: Water supply to several areas of Karachi was disrupted today (Tuesday) after a water pipeline at the Dhabeji pumping station burst.

According to details, the water pipeline of the metropolis at the Dhabeji pumping station to Karachi burst owing to pressure caused by power breakdowns.

Managing Director (MD) Water Board Khalid Mehmood Sheikh has informed that the repair work was initiated immediately after the incident and Karachi is being supplied water from alternate sources.

“Due to the suspension of water supply, as per roughly estimates, the residents of the big city are depriving of roughly 80-100 million gallons of water,” he added.

The Dhabeji pumping station, which pumps water to around 70 percent of the metropolis, frequently suffers power breakdowns as a result of which the pipelines burst.

KWSB officials claim they have time and again raised concern over the faulty transmission lines of the K-Electric (KE), but the frequent power breakdowns have not been brought under control.
