The Karachi Traffic Police have announced a special traffic management plan to facilitate citizens during the Eid shopping season.
According to Pir Muhammad Shah, section officers and traffic personnel deployed in various districts of the city will perform duties daily from 7pm until late at night, remaining on duty around shopping centres and markets until business activities conclude.
He said additional traffic personnel have been deployed on major roads and around busy markets across Karachi to manage the expected increase in traffic during Eid shopping. Rickshaws and taxis will not be allowed from Allah Wali Chowrangi to Ittihad Signal, while commercial vehicles have been advised to use the routes via Noorani Signal, Medicare and Shaheed-e-Millat Road.
Traffic coming from Drigh Road will be able to reach NIPA through Millennium Bridge, while rickshaws and taxis will not be permitted under the bridge.
In case of heavy congestion at Hyderi Market, commercial traffic coming from North Karachi will be diverted through Five Star Chowrangi, Sharea Noor Jahan and Landi Kotal Chowrangi. Traffic coming from Board Office Chowrangi will use the route via KDA Chowrangi, Ziauddin Chowrangi and Sharea Noor Jahan towards North Karachi.
Rickshaws and taxis will also be restricted from entering the stretch between Fawara Chowk and GPO as well as from Singer Chowk to Zeb-un-Nisa Street. Drivers have been advised to use alternative routes through M.R. Kiyani Chowk, Sarwar Shaheed Road, Coast Guard, Regal Chowk or Tibet Centre.
Similarly, rickshaws and taxis will not be allowed from Tibet Chowk to Eidgah Chowk near Jama Cloth Market. Drivers have been advised to use alternative routes via Urdu Bazaar, Court Road Chowk or Fresco Chowk.
Pir Muhammad Shah added that rickshaws and taxis will not be permitted on Rashid Minhas Road. Commercial drivers should instead use Sarfaraz Ghori Road from Sajjan Kanta.
He further stated that illegal rickshaw and taxi stands will not be allowed around supermarkets across the city during the Eid shopping period.
