Karachi is set to launch a new electric bus route on Tuesday, as the Sindh government expands its electric vehicle (EV) public transport network.
A total of 34 new EV buses have been added to the city’s fleet, with key routes planned from Gulshan-e-Maymar to Tower and extended services in areas such as Clifton and Defence.
The additions complement recently introduced double-decker, air-conditioned buses currently operating from Model Colony to Tower. In total, 39 new buses, 34 EVs and 5 double-deckers, were imported from China to strengthen Karachi’s public transport infrastructure.
The Peoples Bus Service is also expanding to areas including Clifton and Defence, aiming to improve connectivity along major corridors like Shahrah-e-Faisal.
Speaking about the initiative, Transport Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said the expansions are being implemented ahead of Eidul Fitr to provide better services for commuters.
The Sindh Mass Transit Authority (SMTA) is leading the efforts, highlighting the government’s push toward sustainable and modern public transport across Karachi.
