KARACHI: Public transportation issues in Karachi continue to persist for commuters, as the honeymoon period of the newly introduced People’s Bus Service seems to be over.
The regular absence of bus drivers on multiple routes has left many commuters stranded, frustrated, and unable to reach their destinations on time.
According to reports gathered by MM News, adding to the commuters’ woes, the recently introduced electric bus service from Model Colony Tank Chowk To Sea View has practically become unavailable. The electric vehicles have been shifted to Bahria Town-Malir Halt Route, and only hybrid diesel buses are seen plying on the route leading to Sea View.
Furthermore, reports suggest that the Sindh government has reduced the number of buses from 30 to 20, leading to overcrowding and delays on various routes of the People’s Bus Service. The commuters of the public bus service have also complained about the delays, which are making their daily commute more cumbersome.
However, the incharge of Bus Service – R1 route – has assured that the peak time from 7 am to 10 am is being monitored, and efforts are being made to ensure that drivers arrive at their designated times. Despite this, commuters continue to feel the brunt of the transportation issues, which are making their daily commute a painful experience.
The situation merits the need for the government to take immediate action to address the transportation issues in Karachi. The commuters urge the authorities to take necessary steps to improve the public transportation system and ensure that the citizens are not left stranded on the roads due to the unavailability of public transport.
