Karachi: A decision has been taken to install digital fare meters in rickshaws across Karachi to address complaints regarding arbitrary fare charges.
The decision was made during a meeting chaired by Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi, where officials discussed measures to improve the city’s public transport system.
The commissioner stated that efforts are underway to eliminate complaints of passengers being charged excessive fares. Through the digital meter system, commuters will be able to pay fares according to the actual distance travelled.
Syed Hassan Naqvi also directed authorities to introduce new bus routes in different areas of the city based on public needs. He said that suburban and transport-deprived areas would be given priority while planning new routes.
He further emphasized that bus routes should be designed according to the requirements of citizens, focusing on effective connectivity rather than simply covering longer distances.
