In a groundbreaking medical milestone, Jinnah Hospital Karachi successfully performed its first-ever knee cancer surgery on Thursday, offering a new ray of hope to patients suffering from rare bone cancers.

The complex four-hour procedure involved the complete removal of the cancer-affected knee of a 26-year-old male patient, which was then replaced with an artificial implant. According to hospital officials, all post-operative tests have returned normal, and the patient is recovering well.

What makes this achievement even more remarkable is that the entire surgery, including the implantation of an artificial knee, was conducted free of cost. The artificial knee alone is estimated to cost up to Rs. 1.2 million in the international market, while the total cost of such a procedure can exceed Rs. 3.5 million.

Officials from Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) confirmed that the patient received both the surgery and the implant without any charges, underlining the hospital’s commitment to accessible healthcare.

Medical experts have hailed the successful operation as a major step forward for public-sector healthcare in Pakistan. With this achievement, Jinnah Hospital joins the ranks of advanced medical institutions capable of handling complex oncological surgeries.
