ISLAMABAD: The capital has been placed under strict traffic restrictions as authorities extend security measures indefinitely following the extension of the ceasefire, amid confirmed news that no US-Iran talks are currently scheduled.
Ceasefire extended but Islamabad Talks deferred in anticlimax
The Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) announced that the Red Zone and Extended Red Zone will remain completely sealed to all vehicular movement. Additionally, the expressway connecting Koral to Zero Point is closed to all traffic, while Srinagar Highway may face intermittent stoppages.
In a move to decongest the city, a total ban has been imposed on heavy traffic entering Islamabad from any direction or highway. “Heavy traffic owners are requested not to travel towards Islamabad at all during these days to avoid inconvenience,” the police advisory stated, emphasizing that these measures are precautionary given the extended ceasefire status.
Alternative Routes for Commuters
To mitigate the impact of the closures, authorities have outlined specific diversion plans for residents:
– Residents of G-5, G-6, G-7, F-6, and F-7 sectors are advised to use 9th Avenue from Margalla Road to access Rawalpindi.
– Traffic originating from Faisal Avenue towards Zero Point will be diverted to 9th Avenue.
– In the event of a closure at Koral Chowk, commuters can reach Koral via 9th Avenue from Srinagar Highway, Stadium Road, Murree Road, Chandni Chowk, and Rawal Road.
– Should the route from Park Road to Club Road be blocked, traffic will be redirected towards Taramri Chowk.
Authorities have urged residents to plan their journeys in advance and adhere to the directions of traffic police deployed across the city.
